WebFeb 21, 2024 · Many have tried products like, Rydlyme, white vinegar, CLR, Lime away, Salt Away, Simple Green, Dawn, even caustics like acids. Some can be bad for aluminum, not to mention gaskets seals, o-rings and impellers. What do you recommend and do you flush with muffs with a solution mixer, or run engine in a large water tub mixture? Thanks WebJun 1, 2010 · May 31, 2010. #2. Re: using dove,dawn soap to flush out your outboard. Used to do it all of the time when flushing the salt out. Warm up motor on muffs. Shut off motor. Turn off the water, and squirt some detergent down in the hose. Crank up motor and turn on water. Run until suds go away.

WebApr 1, 2024 · Apparently, salt just loves to attach itself to cast aluminum. Like Crunchy suggests, it's just something you have to deal with. Kimcrwbr1 is probably right too in that more heat likely makes the problem worse. Salt away or white vinegar and water is all I know of that helps get rid of it without damaging the metal. Good luck with it.
