WebSep 28, 2001 · Hardness is one of the most sought after material properties and one of the most important attributes of the transition metal carbides and nitrides. Hardness is important for many obvious reasons, reducing the wear of everyday objects being one and creating machining tools being another. WebThis method accurately accounts for the crystallographic characteristics of both structures under consideration. Its application is demonstrated in detail for the transition metal nitrides with NaCl structure. Calorimetric measurements in the metastable system (Ti, Al)N provide experimental refinement of the estimation method. Résumé
